As a result, the entire area was corrupted by rot due to Malenia’s power and everything descended into a nightmarish red hue that makes entering the location an incredibly ominous experience. Whilst it’s true that traveling through Caelid is not exactly like frolicking through a spring meadow, there are certainly several areas that any Tarnished need to check out, especially when looking to gain useful items.

Updated June 7, 2022, by James Sired:The Lands Between has been thoroughly explored by millions of players since its original release. The growing community of Elden Ring has become fascinated by the corrupted land of Caelid and the horrors that await the Tarnished there. Now that Caelid has been thoroughly scoured of all items, the majority of players are now aware of a few extra places that the Tarnished should visit when exploring Caelid to gain extra items and powerups that will change one’s playstyle.

14 Sellia Crystal Tunnel

One of the first places the Tarnished will likely visit in Caelid will be the inside of the Sellia Crystal Tunnel. The first time the player opens the trap in Dragon-Burnt Ruins in Limgrave, they will be transported there. (If the player is stuck here, they can quickly sprint out to a Site of Grace.)

Once the player returns, they will be able to get cathartic revenge on the Kindred of Rot that tormented the player in the early stage of the game. This tunnel also contains loads of Smithing Stones, a talisman, and a Bell Bearing that will give loads of useful items.

13 Caelid Catacombs

These catacombs can be found by traveling east from the Cathedral of Dragon Communion and can offer a few useful items that might interest the player. Fortunately, the catacombs are also very simple to navigate, so the player can get the rewards with minimal effort if they are correctly leveled for Caelid.

There will be a couple of secret areas that will give players Grave Gloveworts and Miranda Sprout Ashes. Additionally, once the player defeats the boss of the catacomb (a Cemetery Shade), they will be rewarded with a Kindred of Rot Spirit Ashes, which is incredibly useful against enemies in the area.

12 Isolated Divine Tower

One of the most difficult-to-read Divine Towers in The Lands Between is located just off of the Bestial Sanctum in the ocean. This is the Tower that the player will be able to access after they defeat Malenia, Blade of Miquella.

To reach it, they will need to use a Waygate at the Divine Bridge in Leyndell, Royal Capital. This can be accessed by a teleporter trap in the Tower of Return. Once they have done these things, they will be able to activate Malenia’s Rune, which will heal the player for a short time after they have been damaged.

11 War-Dead Catacombs

This is one of the few catacombs that may go overlooked by Tarnished exploring Caelid, perhaps due to the fact that it is located inside the boss arena for Starscourge Radahn. Due to this, the player will need to beat Radahn in order to access these catacombs.

This catacomb is certainly worth exploring because completing it will yield some interesting spirit ashes along with the Collapsing Stars spell, the final spell Radahn learned before he challenged the stars. The enemies aren’t too challenging either, so it’s certainly worth exploring as soon as the player defeats Radahn.

10 Sellia, Town Of Sorcery

One of the biggest indications of a functioning society before the scarlet rot came is Sellia, Town of Sorcery. Even though it looks relatively empty, several things can be done here, most importantly lighting the different braziers in the towers.

Lighting these towers will cause various magic barriers in the town to disappear and reveals several useful items to the Tarnished, specifically certain spells. This coincides with the lore because this was the place where Starscourge Radahn learned gravity magic.

9 Divine Tower Of Caelid

The rewards inside this Divine Tower are particularly useful in the early game, although it will require the Tarnished to complete Redmane Castle beforehand to get the most out of what is inside. Players will also need to do a lot of tricky platforming with Torrent just to get inside.

Once inside, Tarnished will be able to descend into the basement where they will find a Godskin Apostle, which will yield a massive number of Runes when defeated. At the very top, they will be able to activate Radahn’s Great Rune which greatly raises HP, Stamina, and FP.

8 Fort Faroth

An extremely important location for progressing into the late game, Fort Faroth has the right half of the Dectus Medallion, which is needed to use the Grand Lift of Dectus which bridges Liurnia of the Lakes and the Altus Plateau.

The Fort is located in Dragonbarrow behind Elder Dragon Greyoll, a humongous dragon that summons smaller dragons with her roar. Killing all the smaller dragons will also kill Greyoll, alternatively, a Tarnished could simply whack her tail for about ten minutes with a colossal sword.

7 Bestial Sanctum

If a Tarnished has ever encountered an enemy or boss that drops an item called Deathroot when it dies, but they don’t know what to do with it then they simply need to travel to the Bestial Sanctum in the northeast of Caelid.

This area, which is unmarred by the scarlet rot, contains many high-level enemies and Gurranq Beast Clergyman, an important NPC that will give you rewards depending on how many pieces of Deathroot you feed him. His questline ends once you have given him nine pieces.

6 Church Of The Plague

Very close to Sellia, Town of Sorcery is the Church of the Plague, which is where the Tarnished will find another important NPC that will aid the player in some late-game areas. Millicent can be found in the church extremely sick with Malenia’s scarlet rot.

Her questline starts by talking to Gowry in his shack further down the hill just outside Sellia and your objective is to cure her. This begins her quest for an adventure which ends in the Haligtree. She is an incredibly useful ally and her questline is worth progressing through, which makes the Church of the Plague a very worthwhile place to visit.

5 Cathedral Of Dragon Communion

Many bosses in Elden Ring are different elemental dragons that are scattered over The Lands Between. These will drop two things: a Dragon Heart and a new power which is available at the Cathedral of Dragon Communion.

Located in south Caelid and guarded by Decaying Ekzykes, this cathedral has a pedestal where players can spend Dragon Hearts in exchange for these powers. These abilities are extremely powerful so visiting the Cathedral is a great extra reward for killing dragons.

4 Lenne’s Rise

Across The Lands Between, the Tarnished will find many towers with blocked-off magical barriers at their entrances. We can surmise that these towers belong to sorcerers due to Lunar Princess Ranni and Preceptor Seluvis having towers of their own in Liurnia.

Just before reaching the Bestial Sanctum in the north of Caelid, the Tarnished will come across Lenne’s rise, another one of these towers. This particular tower can be accessed through a balcony on the south side in addition to some platforming and players will be rewarded with a Memory Stone.

3 Swamp Of Aeonia

To the west of Sellia, Town of Sorcery is probably the largest visual representation of the damage Malenia’s scarlet rot has done to Caelid. The Swamp of Aeonia is the type of area that many FromSoftware veterans will be very used to, a horrific badland that will kill you if you linger for too long.

Here, the Tarnished can encounter Commander O’Neil, the boss that will drop the Unalloyed Gold Needle, which is a necessary item for curing Millicent of her sickness. The Tarnished can also explore the Street of Sages Ruins for useful items located in the surrounding Swamp of Aeonia area.

2 Fort Gael

When first entering Caelid from Limgrave one of the first places to visit should be Fort Gael. If any Tarnished are struggling to get to Redmane Castle, they will be happy to hear that this Fort houses a teleporter that will allow the player to start the Radahn Festival much faster.

Fort Gael also has a powerful incantation named ‘Flame, Grant Me Strength’ which would be an ideal addition to a Tarnished’s Faith build. However, the Tarnished also need to be watchful for the Lions Guardian who prowls the fort, but killing it will give a great Ash of War.

1 Redmane Castle

The site of the magnificent Radahn Festival, Redmane Castle is essentially empty apart from the gathering site of many NPCs who will join in your fight to fell Starscourge Radahn. Completing the Radahn Festival not only furthers multiple questlines but also unlocks a brand-new area of Nokron, Eternal City.

We learn that after his stalemate fight with Malenia, Radahn has been driven totally mad by the scarlet rot and only wants to die in glorious battle. He certainly lives up to his name as the strongest demigod as defeating him requires every ounce of strength that the Tarnished has.
