In a recent clip uploaded to the Skyrim Subreddit, user battleooze1615 can be seen enjoying the sights of Solitude, watching some of the guards in their training. However, the player’s attention quickly turns when they notice a peculiar sight, namely that a number of mannequins appear to be strolling through the city as though nothing is out of the ordinary. It’s even more off because none of the other NPCs appear to notice or even mind that two statues have begun walking calmly around the place. It’s quite a creepy thing to behold.

The mannequins in Skyrim are pretty terrifying anyway and while it’s tempting to say that this could be a mod which adds them in as normal NPCs, the fact that they don’t appear to have a name or an option to speak to them could mean it’s a bug. What seems to perturb the player even more is when one of them turns to speak when they get too close, and it seems to leave them baffled in what may have simply started out as a lovely sojourn through the city.
Solitude is one of Skyrim’s most interesting cities, as not only is it the capital of the land, but the enormous rock structure that separates it from the Blue Palace gives it a very distinctive look. In that regard, seeing two mannequins strolling through while guards are training is not something players will expect. But as mentioned above, it could simply be a glitch, albeit an eerie one.
With even the Anniversary Edition of Skyrim having game-breaking bugs, the game in general is known for its litany of issues. While there are some which ruin the experience, many are more amusing, or disturbing in some cases, and players are often keen to show off what they’ve discovered out in the wild. It should be a devastating criticism of the game and its developer, but all the harmless glitches that fans come across seem to just add to the overall charm of the experience.
