Carpenter was furious with the way Karam was racing him late in the race, so he let the 20-year-old know about it by shaking his middle finger and fist at Karam while keeping one hand on the wheel at more than 175 mph.

Carpenter’s rage carried over onto pit road after the race, which was won by American Ryan Hunter-Reay. In a slew of swear words, Carpenter told Karam how he really felt about getting squeezed twice on the front straightaway.

“It’s hard racing,” Karam told NBCSN after the race. “I’m going for wins and that is how we are driving. It’s close racing, it’s IndyCar racing. This ain’t go-karts or anything anymore.”

Hunter-Reay held off Josef Newgarden to claim the sixth consecutive Iowa victory for Andretti Autosport. Carpenter settled for sixth place.
